Olga Kurylenko To Reveal The Fifth Design From Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress On The Oscar Carpet
Actress Olga Kurylenko will have the honor of walking the red carpet at the 86th annual Academy Awards on March 2nd for Red Carpet Green Dress. Kurylenko’s gown will be the sustainable vision of contest winner Alice Elia, a student of ESMOD in Paris, where she is currently being mentored through dress construction by the college’s couture team. This year marks the fifth anniversary of Red Carpet Green Dress which was conceived by Suzy Amis Cameron during the press tour for her husband James Cameron’s film Avatar. Her hope was to draw attention to the importance of more sustainable practices in fashion. “As I reflect on the past five years of the campaign, my thoughts are immediately drawn to the challenges we’ve faced in creating these gorgeous sustainable gowns,” says Amis Cameron. “While there are still great strides to be made, it’s important to point out that there are a greater number of sustainable resources available to designers today than there were five years ago.”
The campaign also raises funds for MUSE School CA, a nonprofit educational organization that Amis Cameron co-founded in Malibu Canyon. Award-winning actress Olga Kurylenko came to international prominence starring opposite Daniel Craig in the Bond film Quantum of Solace. Kurylenko established her career in France following her debut performance as a leading actress in the film L’Annulaire, and she has since occupied roles in The Water Diviner opposite Russell Crowe, Oblivion opposite Tom Cruise, Hitman, There Be Dragons and Terence Malick’s To The Wonder. “What a privilege it will be to wear Alice’s gorgeous design on the red carpet for the campaign’s fifth year, which is such a milestone for Suzy and everyone involved,” comments Kurylenko. “It’s a great honor to have been asked.”
Alice Elia was born in Bordeaux and is a French-Lebanese fashion student currently studying ESMOD’s ‘Fashion Design & Creation’ curriculum, specializing in ‘Couture For Women.’ During the summer of 2012, Elia traveled to Beirut where she interned with Elie Saab’s Haute Couture Workshop, which was followed by a second internship at Morgan’s ready-to-wear studio in Paris. Elia’s captivation with fashion stems from its ability to unite different cultures, ideas, and points of view. “Through my fashion studies, I’ve blossomed and grown up to discover a world I didn’t really know until now,” remarks Elia. “This has prepared me to create unique clothes for unique women and taught me how to bring them into my universe while respecting their own.”
An exciting partnership between PETA and Beyond Skin – an ethical footware and fashion label based in the U.K. – will also be introduced when Olga hits the carpet on Oscar Sunday. Beyond Skin, which just received an award for Most Stylish Women’s Flat Shoes at the second annual PETA-Approved Vegan Fashion Awards, has collaborated with PETA to develop a vegan, limited edition, red carpet shoe for Red Carpet Green Dress. The faux suede and metallic-trimmed evening shoe is made from Dinamica, which is manufactured in Italy and is durable, long lasting, and made from 100% recycled bottle tops. The shoes will be available to purchase from Beyond Skin (www.beyondskin.co.uk) on March 3rd with 10% of proceeds going to MUSE School CA. With ethical consumerism on the rise, companies like Beyond Skin are leading the way.
“Celebrating five years of sustainable gowns on the red carpet requires a show stopping woman and Olga is the perfect choice,” adds Samata Angel, campaign director. “We are extremely excited to have Alice Elia on board with her incredible design.”
