It was such an incredible honor for me to be involved with Red Carpet Green Dress. Going to the Oscars for me, as an actress, has always been a life long dream. To be able to go this year being a part of an Oscar nominated movie in a socially conscious dress made it truly an experience of a lifetime. People asked me if I was nervous to wear a dress I had never seen nor did I have anything to do with picking out the design of. It was actually quite the opposite. I was so thrilled during every part of the process. When I initially saw the design sketch. I couldn’t believe it. It was literally one of the most gorgeous designs I have ever seen. Then each part of the process was really exciting. From the first muslin fitting to watching each piece of the bodice come together. Then the final fitting. Oh my god. I felt like Cinderella.
I think this project is overwhelmingly important. I think young people across the world are starting to come into a whole new consciousness when it comes to their role in saving the planet. We all know that we have a choice in what we buy. Everytime we swipe our credit card or give someone our hard earned money we have a choice. And people are starting to look at labels and care. And a competition like this brings to the forefront how important it is to take a role, no matter how small, even if it is simply swiping your credit card. You can make a difference. It also helps when the gown you wear on the red carpet it mind blowingly gorgeous. I think people have an idea that a sustainable dress is going to look like a sustainable dress. a gunny sack with a rope around it. So when a dress is on the red carpet like the one I wore, people’s fundamental ideas change about eco fashion.

I got to the red carpet with Samata Angel from Red Carpet Green Dress. It was wonderful having someone from the organization with me because I was more nervous than I thought I was going to be being at probably the most famous red carpet in the world. The OSCARS. I think I had to do like 100 interviews and she helped me make sure that I was able to represent the organization in the right light even when I felt like I had a mouth full of cotton balls. She has such a lovely energy and is an amazing spirit. I loved having her next to me. It was also an incredible honor to be walked down the carpet amidst so many stars and so much pomp and circumstance with an actual representative of the academy. He made sure that we got to talk to as many media outlets as possible to get our message out there.

Then to be sitting in the audience and hear that my movie, The Artist, had won best picture and to walk onstage in the dress felt like the most perfect ending to this gorgeous Cinderella story. Everyone who I spoke to who had watched the Oscars on TV was completely blown away by my dress on that stage. “You looked gorgeous Missi. But that dress! And it was an eco dress! Wow!”
Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of this event. I will treasure every memory from that evening. Let me know if you need anything else. I will be in LA from Aug 16- Oct 7 then I will be in NYC for the fall and winter doing a musical. So let me know when you want to do a sit down interview.
All my love,
Missi
